Running with the Rainbow Unicorn is a song sung by both Bessie and Portia. It's the first one played on The Mighty B!, excluding the show's theme.
The song makes its first appearance in "We Got the Bee," and is featured occasionally throughout the series, even being played in select season 2 episodes. For example, Portia later constructs a carousel that plays the song in "My Way or the Bee Way."
According to the credits for "Blindsided," "Running with the Rainbow Unicorn" was written by voice actor and writer John Ross Bowie, who also provided the music alongside Michael Phirman (Dannah Feinglass' husband).
Lyrics[]
Normal Version[]
Bessie: I'm a pretty pretty princess, it's a full-time gig
Everybody wants to be my friend, and it kinda makes me sick
Bessie & Portia: When I'm not in my canopy bed, I'm filling my diary with stickers
Portia: My mom screams "Get down here, Portia!", and I just say "whatever".
'Cause, I'm running with the rainbow unicorn,
don't you wish you were me?
Running with the rainbow unicorn,
and I want everyone to see
Running with the rainbow unicorn,
don't you wish you were me?
Running with the rainbow unicorn,
and I want everyone to see
Hey look at me
Rock and Roll Version[]
Portia: I'm a pretty, pretty, princess
It's a full-time gig
Everybody wants to be my friend, and it kinda makes me sick
Bessie: Bleh, bleh, bleh
Portia: When I'm not in a canopy bed, I'm filling my diary with stickers
My mom screams...
Bessie & Portia: Get down here, Portia!
Portia: And I just say "whatever"
'Cause I'm running with the rainbow unicorn,
don't you wish you were me?
Bessie: Running with the rainbow unicorn,
and I want everyone to see
Bessie & Portia: Running with the rainbow unicorn,
don't you wish you were me?
Running with the rainbow unicorn,
and I want everyone to see
Hey, look at me!
Bessie: THANK YOU, SAN FRANCISCO! GOOD NIGHT!
Trivia[]
- Following "We Got the Bee," the song is occasionally played throughout the series, usually with Bessie singing an off-key version. Examples include "Blindsided" and "What's the Frequency Bessie?" Happy also sings the song in "Rinx!"
- Strangely, the songwriter was uncredited in "We Got the Bee"; however, this was rectified in "Blindsided" (see opening paragraph).
- A music video for the song is a special feature on the We Got the Bee! DVD.
- The song's melody is very similar to The Cure's 1987 hit "Just Like Heaven."
